Last night I was spinning another Seattle hip-hop Christmas record, Food-$$-Booze-Xmas from OCnotes. Released in 2012 and available on Bandcamp, this one’s a Christmas fever dream: Sprinkled with instrumental pieces of holiday nostalgia and dialogue samples from the Peanuts, Chevy Chase… Everything feels oddly familiar while at the same time utterly unrecognizable. In the chopped and distorted samples of track 4, “Santa Clauses Coffee,” you’ll come away with an impression of “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” without the music ever quite resolving itself into the song. This one deserves a place in your annual holiday playlists.
